If you are a regular Internet user, whether at home or at work, chances are you've heard time afirewall. Ask specifically what firewall though, most people have little knowledge, just know that is something that protects the computer system.

Just enough, this is true; the basic principle behind the action sa firewall is a barrier between the network and local computers. This local computer can be a Standalone system, part of a large home network or office network.

Regardless, firewall works the same way and keep unwanted hackers and / or prevent users from doing certain actions (eg see the offensive website or download the program).

A firewall can be done correctly in the computer system, (known as Firewall Software), to a network router, (known as Firewall equipment), or both.

Nearly all current network routers have built in firewall that can be configured through the browser of their Internet connected computer. Most home computer systems before the firewall software installed, there are also many free firewalls available on the web.

All equipment and software firewalls work in the same way and put your system for maximum safety and security of proposed combination of both. To protect your system is using a firewall for one or two of the following methods:

Packet filtering is used to compare the data (or packets) that meet the standard filter firewall, such as the data and filters it is allowed through, but it was dropped.

Stateful inspection is different and newer technologies packet filtering to analyze the whole package, but only partially. Outbound package special characteristics compared to inbound packets as acceptable to compare the data allowed into the network, but it was dropped.

Using technology to users to allow or deny traffic into and out of their networks based on IP addresses, domain names, protocols and ports.
